The Dubai Duty-Free lottery known as Millennium Millionaire has seen its latest winner. Reports confirm it to be a 45-year-old Kenyan housewife and mother of two, Tajinder Dhanjal, from Nairobi.
Dhanjal is grateful to be the third Kenyan in a row to win the $1 million (Sh113 million) prize since the lottery began in 1999. Paul Wachira, 42, and Ashwani Ganjoo, 52, also Kenyan nationals, were the lucky winners of the previous draws in 2019 and 2020.
“This is a real blessing from God, I cannot explain how much I appreciate this.” Said Dhanjal after accepting the money.
Dhanjal says that she has been a regular player in the lottery for the past ten years. Her lucky break finally came when she bought a Millennium Millionaire ticket online.
Dubai Duty-Free is known as one of the biggest travel retail operators in the world. Its Millennium Millionaire draw has been a big contributor to the rising popularity of lottery gambling in Dubai and Kenya over the past decades.
Lotteries have become a viable alternative to sports betting, the most popular and common form of betting in North Africa and in the UAE too.
